Day 1 of 25
Nicotine wind-down
There is no official pouch- or vape-specific numerical taper. Track your pattern, reduce during days 1β4, and stop all nicotine by day 5.
Today's pills Β·
Crossed out = logged. Upcoming times are projected from your last logged pill.
How do you feel today?
Cravings Β·
Logging cravings reveals your patterns over time. A craving passes in 3β5 minutes whether you smoke or not β breathe, drink water, move.

π Privacy & open source
Your course data stays in this browser. Cytisinio has no accounts and no backend database. Pill, nicotine-use, craving, and mood logs are never sent to us.

- Respect the schedule. Cytisine works by keeping your nicotine receptors occupied β skipped pills leave the door open for cravings. Log every pill here.
- Quit fully by day 5. The course is built around it. Smoking on cytisine past day 5 feels bad (nausea) and undermines the receptor blockade.
- Take pills with a glass of water, ideally not on an empty stomach β it prevents most of the nausea.
- Break your trigger routines for 2 weeks. Coffee in a different spot, different break routine at work, no alcohol the first week if drinking = smoking for you.
- Plan your hands and mouth. Chewing gum, toothpicks, a water bottle, fidget object β the gesture is half the addiction.
- Snack smart. Nicotine was suppressing your appetite. Have fruit and nuts ready so you don't swap cigarettes for sugar.
- Tell people. Announce your quit day to friends/family. Social accountability measurably improves success rates.
- Make the money visible. Put your daily cigarette budget in a jar or a dedicated savings note. It compounds fast.
- A slip is not a relapse. If you smoke one, drop it, don't buy a pack, and continue the course. All-or-nothing thinking is the relapse engine.
π Sport β your best craving killer
- Even 10β15 minutes of brisk walking measurably reduces craving intensity and withdrawal symptoms β it's the closest thing to a free dose of relief.
- Exercise gives you the dopamine hit your brain used to get from nicotine, but with better mood regulation and no crash.
- Your cardio improves within 2 weeks of quitting β lung function starts recovering and oxygen transport improves as carbon monoxide leaves your blood. Training feels noticeably easier, which is very motivating.
- Schedule workouts at your former smoking peak times (after work, after meals) β it rewrites the habit slot.
- It also counters the two classic quitting worries: weight gain and stress.
π΄ Sleep, coffee & side effects
- Vivid dreams and lighter sleep are common the first week (both from cytisine and from nicotine withdrawal). It normalizes β and then your sleep gets better than when you smoked: nicotine was fragmenting it all along.
- Halve your caffeine. Smoking doubles how fast you burn caffeine β quit, and your usual coffee suddenly hits twice as hard. That "withdrawal anxiety and insomnia" is often just over-caffeination. No coffee after ~14:00 the first two weeks.
- Mild nausea, dry mouth, headaches in the first days are the most common cytisine side effects and usually pass. Water + food with pills helps.
- Feeling foggy or irritable days 5β8 is withdrawal, not the pills β it peaks around 72h smoke-free and then fades.
- If you get severe symptoms (chest pain, vomiting, allergic reaction), stop and see a doctor.
β What quitting nicotine gives you
- 20 minutes: heart rate and blood pressure drop back down.
- 24β48 h: carbon monoxide is out of your blood; smell and taste start returning.
- 72 h: breathing is easier; bronchial tubes relax. This is also the withdrawal peak β it's downhill after this.
- 2β12 weeks: circulation and lung function improve; exercise feels easier.
- 3β9 months: coughing and shortness of breath fade; lung cilia regrow and clean house.
- 1 year: risk of coronary heart disease is half that of a smoker.
- Mental health: despite the "smoking relaxes me" myth, studies show anxiety and depression scores improve after quitting β the "relief" of a cigarette was just relief from its own withdrawal.
- Money: a pack a day in France is ~β¬12 β that's ~β¬4,400/year back in your pocket.
- Daily life: better skin, whiter teeth, no smell, no planning life around the next smoke break.
π’ Pouches, vapes & other nicotine
- The finish line is the same: Desmoxan is intended for permanent cessation of nicotine-containing products, not cigarettes alone. Stop all nicotine no later than day 5.
- Days 1β4 are a runway, not a formula. There is no official milligram-by-milligram taper for pouches or vaping. Log each use, avoid increasing, delay the first use, remove automatic uses, and make the gaps longer.
- Day 4: remove the remaining supply and prepare substitutes for the mouth-and-hands habit. Day 5 is zero nicotine.
- Do not compensate by choosing stronger pouches, leaving them in longer, or vaping more intensely.
- Watch for too much nicotine effect. Using nicotine alongside cytisine can worsen effects such as nausea, dizziness, headache, or a racing heartbeat. Ask a pharmacist or clinician if you are unsure.

β οΈ Why not just switch to vaping
- It keeps the addiction alive. Nicotine is the dependence, whatever the delivery device. Vaping after this course re-occupies the very receptors cytisine just freed β you'd be redoing the withdrawal later, from scratch.
- Nicotine itself isn't neutral: it raises heart rate and blood pressure, disrupts sleep, and drives the anxiety rollercoaster between doses.
- Modern vapes often deliver more nicotine than cigarettes β nicotine salts make high doses smooth to inhale, so dependence can end up stronger, with all-day grazing instead of discrete cigarettes.
- Long-term lung effects are unknown β vaping is very likely less harmful than smoking, but "less harmful than cigarettes" is a very low bar, and flavorings/aerosols are not proven safe to inhale for decades.
- Dual-use trap: many people who "switch" end up both vaping and smoking within a year β the vape maintains dependence, and a stressful day reopens the cigarette door.
- Cost creep: disposables and pods quietly reach smoking-level spending.
- You're doing the hard part right now. Finishing nicotine-free means never having to do this again.
